Gender-affirming support groups can be healing spaces for our community members to grieve, empathize, and gather together as a collective. Below are a variety of virtual, free, and gender-affirming support groups to bookmark for you and anyone else you know could benefit from these spaces.

Reimagining Spirituality: Queer Cosmologies | Envisioning Safety on Campus

Envisioning Safety on Campusis hosting Reimagining Spirituality: Queer Cosmologies, a roundtable where participants will engage the histories, wisdom traditions, and lived experiences of queer and trans people within African spiritual cosmologies, while reflecting on the ongoing impact of religious trauma, exclusion, and erasure. This roundtable explores how many African and diasporic spiritual traditions historically held expansive understandings of gender, embodiment, intimacy, and sacred roles prior to colonial intervention and Christian moral regulation. Through storytelling, ritual, history, and community dialogue, participants will examine the role of queer ancestors, Òrìṣà gender multiplicity, chosen family, and sacred embodiment in cultivating liberatory futures.

Parent & Caregiver Support Group | Black Girls Smile

Black Girls Smile is hosting a virtual Parents and Caregivers event, a nurturing space for caregivers to connect, reflect, and learn tools for their own mental wellbeing while supporting the young people in their lives. These gatherings are designed to create a sense of belonging, community, and healing, while exploring the intersection of mental health and lived experience.

Monthly Meeting | Transform Gender Collective

Transform Gender Collective (TGC) is a support and discussion group for transmasculine and masculine-of-center Black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) to learn about transformative justice, unlearn toxic gendered behaviors, and imagine what masculinity could look like outside of the gender binary. This month, TGC is hosting Moving Through Conflict, a workshop for transmasculine and masculine-of-center BIPOC focused on navigating interpersonal conflict through transformative justice principles.

PAUSE | Mercurial Flow

Biola Jeje, founder of Mercurial Flow, is hosting the third session of Pause, a free six-week series for nonprofit, advocacy, and campaign leaders who want practical tools to recognize burnout early, support their teams with more care and clarity, and build cultures that can sustain the work. In this 30-minute session, participants will going over the emotional labor leaders carry silently (and why it stays unnamed), what this looks like in practice, and how to build it as infrastructure so it's not just you holding the room.

Queer, Trans, & Disability Support Group | TransPonder

TransPonder hosts Queer, Trans, & Disability Support Group every Thursday at 7pm for people who are LGBTQIA2S, trans, nonbinary, or gender-diverse and are disabled. This is a space where queer and trans people with disabilities can chat about their experiences, discuss chosen topics, and share resources and validation. Folks do not need to talk or use video to participate.

Cafe Crip: Video Games | Disability Cultural Center

Disability Cultural Center is hosting Cafe Crip, a monthly gathering to talk about important topics within our disability communities. This month’s discussion will be facilitated by Shaina Ghuray in conversation about the cozy joys of video games, analyzing disabled characters and representation, new accessible tech, sharing genius crip-hacks, and building community through gaming. Readings will be sent in advance, but they are optional.

Saturday Sessions | Galleyway

Galleyway is hosting Saturday Sessions, a series of virtual writing sessions with their founder Camille Wanliss to offer writers of all disciplines an opportunity to convene with others while working on personal projects. Sessions are silent, free, virtual, and last two hours in duration.

Yeah, But Was It Good? Listening to Audio Description for Dance Critically | Dark Room Ballet

Dark Room Ballet is hosting Audio Description for Dance, a tuition-free online workshop series exploring the art, practice, and philosophy of audio description for dance. Designed for blind and visually impaired artists and audiences, audio describers, choreographers, educators, and arts administrators, this series offers an in-depth look into accessible performance practices and creative approaches to audio description.

Audio description for dance performances is still very rare, but that doesn’t mean that blind and visually impaired audiences should be satisfied when the audio description on offer is of low quality. In this session, participants are going to get to listen to numerous examples of audio description for dance, and talk about what works and what doesn’t work, and what they might change in order to improve it.

The Reparations Project Community Assembly: Disability Justice as Priority | Healthcare Reparations Cooperative

Healthcare Reparations Cooperative is hosting community assemblies for folks impacted by an issue to build power around it, collaborate on an ongoing initiative to address it, and deepen public empowerment as the project progresses. This community assemble, the second virtual installment of The Reparation’s Project’s Assembly, will explore Disability Justice as a dimension of health and a site for reparations.

Los Angeles Spoonie Collective Support Groups are unstructured spaces where folks can connect to, and offer mutual aid with others who share similar life experiences and struggles. All support groups are facilitated by members of LASC. This support group happens every other month.

Monthly Recovery Circle | RooT Recovery Circle

RooT Recovery Circle will be holding drop-in spaces every first Monday for Black people, Indigenous people, and people of color who are getting curious about and staying committed to working through coping patterns that might not be meeting our needs for connection to self and others. This is a connection and participant centered space that invites collective and embodied wisdom instead of shame and guilt to address some of our challenges with habits and substance use.

Breath Circle for Collective Capacity is a gathering space for grounding with Healing Justice Ldn. This regular space is held for light stretching, breathing and meditative practice. It’s a space that scaffolds and staggers levels of participation, so that you can opt in to what supports you and your body to feel safer. Grief & Care Under Capitalism | A Sacred Passing & Leillani Mexera

Grief & Care Under Capitalism is a monthly grieving space and participatory support group for anyone feeling exploited and exhausted by capitalism. Tea 4 T | ProjectQ Community Center

ProjectQ will be hosting Tea 4 T, a free biweekly peer support group for POC transmasculine youth ages 17 to 27 to talk about their experiences, build community, and learn valuable skills. Maximum attendance of our support group is 15 participants to make sure everyone has a chance to speak and to be heard without being rushed. Justice Producer’s Collaborative | Calling Up Justice

The Justice Producer’s Collaborative, holds synchronous (cultivation calls and organizing calls) and asynchronous connective space (Discord server) so Justice producers can tend to their virtual community garden in a way that reflects shared power and decision-making. Cultivation calls are 90 minutes of relationship building, signal boosting, peer support, and meaning making. They occur in an auto-captioned Zoom meeting space.

The Network/La Red has a 24/7 hotline with free and confidential phone based support groups for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC survivors of partner abuse. Call their hotline at 800-832-1901 for more information.

THRIVE Lifeline has a 24/7, non-carceral text-based identity and mental health crisis line run by and for marginalized individuals.

Crisis Call Line | BlackLine

Call BlackLine® provides a space for peer support, counseling, reporting of mistreatment, witnessing and affirming the lived experiences for folxs who are most impacted by systematic oppression with an LGBTQ+ Black Femme Lens. BlackLine is non-judgmental, affirming and supportive, listener-witnessing and information gathering about your experience.
